Spaghetti Bolognese
A hearty Italian beef pasta sauce (ragù) with onions, garlic, mushrooms, oregano, tomatoes, and Parmesan served over spaghetti.
Steps
- 1
Heat the onion and olive oil in a large pan over fairly high heat for 3–4 minutes.
- 2
Add the garlic and minced beef; fry until both brown.
- 3
Add the mushrooms and dried oregano; cook for another couple of minutes.
- 4
Stir in the tomatoes, beef stock, tomato puree and Worcestershire sauce; season to taste and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes.
- 5
Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti in a large pan of boiling salted water according to package instructions.
- 6
Drain the spaghetti, run hot water through it, return it to the pan and stir in a dash of olive oil if you like, then mix with the meat sauce.
- 7
Serve hot with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
