Spaghetti Bolognese

A hearty Italian beef pasta sauce (ragù) with onions, garlic, mushrooms, oregano, tomatoes, and Parmesan served over spaghetti.

Steps

    Heat the onion and olive oil in a large pan over fairly high heat for 3–4 minutes.

    Add the garlic and minced beef; fry until both brown.

    Add the mushrooms and dried oregano; cook for another couple of minutes.

    Stir in the tomatoes, beef stock, tomato puree and Worcestershire sauce; season to taste and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes.

    Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti in a large pan of boiling salted water according to package instructions.

    Drain the spaghetti, run hot water through it, return it to the pan and stir in a dash of olive oil if you like, then mix with the meat sauce.

    Serve hot with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
