English Breakfast
A traditional British breakfast featuring sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, black pudding, fried bread and eggs, cooked on a hot grill and served with condiments.
Steps
- 1
Heat the flat grill plate over a low heat and brush with light olive oil.
- 2
Cook the sausages first on the grill plate, turning occasionally for about 15-20 minutes until golden; after the first 10 minutes, increase heat to medium; keep warm in oven if needed.
- 3
Snip a few small cuts into the fatty edge of the bacon and fry on the grill plate for 2-4 minutes per side until crispy; keep warm in oven if needed.
- 4
Brush away dirt from the mushrooms, trim the stalks, season and drizzle with olive oil; grill stalk-side up for 1-2 minutes, then turn and cook 3-4 more minutes.
- 5
Prepare the tomatoes: cut as desired, remove the eye, season and drizzle with oil; cook cut-side down on the grill for 2 minutes, then turn and cook 2-3 more minutes until tender but still holding shape.
- 6
Slice the black pudding and cook on the grill for 1.5-2 minutes per side until slightly crispy.
- 7
Fry the bread separately in a pan with oil until crispy and golden; add a knob of butter after turning for richer flavor.
- 8
Fry the eggs: crack into the pan with the fried bread, cook for about 30 seconds, add butter and baste until done to your liking.
- 9
Serve everything on warm plates and enjoy immediately with tomato ketchup or brown sauce.
